On the 8th, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education held the “2025 International Exchange and Cooperation Conference” at the International Hall of the National Institute of International Education with the theme of “Global Education Cooperation for a Peaceful and Sustainable Global Community.”
The event was attended by about 200 people, including domestic and international education experts, teachers, and officials from the Office of Education. For those who wished to participate online, the event was broadcast live on the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education YouTube channel (GO3).
The event consisted of a keynote speech and a roundtable discussion in Part 1, followed by presentations and a panel discussion in Part 2. Part 1 began with Keynote Speech I (Greg Beijing Normal University Professor) and Keynote Speech II (Josephine Kim Harvard Graduate School of Education Professor).
The roundtable discussion, moderated by Education Supervisor Lim Tae-hee, emphasized the values and necessity of education for a peaceful and sustainable global community, with the two keynote speakers participating. The discussion also covered specific implementation plans for international exchange and cooperation being promoted by the Gyeonggi-do Office of Education.
Summarizing the keynote speakers' remarks, Superintendent Lim emphasized that “what is needed for global education is not so much technical aspects as a global mindset, with a focus on responsibility and values, and the ability to embrace diversity.”
Part 2 began with a presentation on the direction of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's policies
(Kim Myeong-jin, Policy Planning Officer and Education Supervisor) and ▲ Research on Expanding International Exchange and Cooperation for Cultivating Global Talent (Lee Ji-young, Researcher at the Gyeonggi-do Education Research Institute). The subsequent panel discussion, moderated by Kim Eun-young (Senior Researcher at the Korea Institute of Education Development), focused on the theme “Global Education Cooperation: Change and Growth Co-Created by the Education Community,” with participants including researchers, teachers, and students.
The panelists presented their views on the roles and support measures for international exchange and cooperation by each education stakeholder, as well as ways to expand school international exchange and cooperation in conjunction with the curriculum. They also agreed that it is necessary to proactively create an environment that enables students to develop international sensibilities and grow as global citizens.
Education Supervisor Lim Tae-hee stated, “Human society is currently facing a period of major transformation driven by rapid scientific and technological change. Amid complex crises such as climate change, an unstable international order, and war, we have a responsibility to discuss how education should change and what role it should play in solving global issues, and to take action.”
He added, “Education has the potential to overcome differences and build global consensus, and I firmly believe that it will be the key to opening up a hopeful future for the global village. The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will take the lead in creating a better future through education and a more peaceful and just global village through international exchange and cooperation.”
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi-do Office of Education is actively working to ensure that international exchange and cooperation activities are established as educational activities in which all students participate across all school levels. This includes producing and distributing materials such as “International Exchange and Cooperation: Beyond the Classroom, Toward the World!” to provide practical support to schools.
