South Korea and Japan to operate ‘Korea-Japan dedicated immigration checkpoints’ at airports for the month of June
Targeted at tourists who have visited within the past year... to facilitate quick entry
The governments of South Korea and Japan will set up and operate ‘Korea-Japan dedicated immigration checkpoints’ at major airports in both countries for the month of June. This measure was established to promote tourism between the two countries and simplify entry procedures.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the dedicated immigration checkpoints will be available to visitors from the other country who meet certain requirements. Specifically, they must be short-term visitors who have visited the other country at least once in the past year as of the date of entry, and they must arrive on a flight departing from their home country between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Visitors can complete the immigration process more quickly through the dedicated immigration checkpoints.
For Japanese visitors to Korea
In Korea, dedicated immigration checkpoints for Japanese visitors are available at Gimpo International Airport (Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways) and Gimhae International Airport (all airlines). Users must complete electronic entry declaration prior to arrival and present the electronic entry declaration form indicating eligibility for the dedicated immigration checkpoint or a screenshot of the relevant screen at the time of entry.
Related information can be found on the Ministry of Justice's Immigration and Foreigners Policy Headquarters website, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Japan's website, and the electronic entry declaration website.
For Koreans visiting Japan
In Japan, dedicated immigration checkpoints for Korean travelers will be established at Haneda Airport Terminal 3 (Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways) and Fukuoka Airport (all airlines). Users must register in advance by entering their information through ‘Visit Japan Web’ and present a screenshot of the QR code confirming their eligibility for the dedicated immigration checkpoint upon arrival.
Detailed information is available on the Visit Japan Web website, the Ministry of Justice's Immigration Bureau website, and the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Korea's website.
A representative from the Ministry of Justice stated, “We hope that the operation of these dedicated immigration checkpoints will enable tourists from both countries to enter Japan more conveniently and quickly.”
