Rural Development Administration leads the development of future agriculture through international standardization of smart agriculture technology

Overseas experts from the US, Germany, and other countries participate in discussions on the direction of international standardization and cooperation

The Rural Development Administration announced that it will hold the “2025 Smart Agriculture Technology Standardization Academic Symposium” on June 12 at the International Conference Hall of its headquarters (Jeonju, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province) in collaboration with the Korea Agency for Agricultural Technology and Rural Development.

This academic symposium has been organized to share the latest technological trends in the field of smart agriculture and international standardization strategies, and to derive the direction for the operation and development of national standards for smart agriculture in Korea.

In addition to domestic agricultural technology experts, relevant organizations from major countries such as the United States and Germany, as well as international standardization organizations, will participate to discuss the direction of international standardization and cooperation strategies for smart agriculture.

In particular, during the first part of the symposium, Andres Ferreyra, Chair of the ISO TC347 Data-based Agri-Food Systems Technology Committee, will visit Korea to present on the current status of smart agriculture in the United States. Andres Ferreyra will introduce the United States' digital agriculture standardization strategy and examples, and will also propose practical cooperation measures with South Korea.

In addition, the second part of the conference, a public forum on smart agriculture standardization hosted by the Korea Agency for Agricultural Technology and Rural Development, will discuss and vote on proposed standards related to smart agriculture. It is expected to be a meaningful opportunity for participants from various fields to gather and create practical standards that reflect the voices of those in the field.

Rural Development Administration Director Kwon Jae-han stated, “The importance of smart agriculture is growing as the most efficient solution to global challenges such as climate change and the aging agricultural population.” He added, “The international standardization of smart agriculture technology will be a key factor in promoting the global expansion of Korean agricultural technology and securing export competitiveness.”

He further explained, “The Rural Development Administration has consistently strengthened efforts to establish national standards and respond to international standardization bodies to promote the practical application of smart agriculture technologies and the establishment of standards.” He concluded, “We anticipate that this academic symposium will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen international cooperation, expand joint research and information exchange, and enhance the sustainability and international competitiveness of agriculture.”

Meanwhile, the 2025 Smart Agriculture Technology Standardization Academic Symposium is open to anyone interested in smart agriculture, including farmers, related companies, researchers, and students.
