The Ministry of Education announced that it has finally selected 118 schools to receive support for the "2026 AI-integrated classrooms" and will provide a total budget of 16.7 billion won to begin full-scale support for their construction and operation starting May 29.

This project is being implemented in accordance with the Ministry of Education's "Plan for Fostering AI Talent for All" (November 10, 2025) and aims to create a future-oriented convergence education and learning environment in schools for students who will live in the age of artificial intelligence.

The Ministry of Education comprehensively evaluated the schools applying nationwide based on their connection to the school curriculum, specificity of space utilization plans, operational capabilities, sustainability of convergence education, and potential for disseminating results, and ultimately selected 118 schools.

The selected schools are scheduled to complete the construction of AI-integrated classrooms and begin operations by the second half of 2026. Through these AI-integrated classrooms, student-participatory classes linked to subject lessons, creative experiential activities, STEAM clubs, and the operation of AI-focused schools will be expanded.

In particular, the AI-integrated classroom focuses on moving away from the traditional classroom environment where subject-specific knowledge is learned in a fragmented manner, and instead provides students with experiences of independently discovering and solving problems by integrating and connecting various fields centered on science, mathematics, and information. Furthermore, it is constructed to enable data exploration utilizing AI, design and production activities, and collaborative project-based learning.

In addition, the Ministry of Education, together with the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS, President Jeong Je-young), is strengthening follow-up support for the successful implementation of AI-integrated classrooms in the field. The plan includes holding information sessions for participating schools, providing phased operational consulting, organizing operational review meetings, and hosting performance sharing sessions, as well as identifying best practices to spread nationwide.
