Daejeon Sahmyook Elementary School Successfully Holds Inauguration and Appointment Ceremony for 'Korea English Press Junior English Reporter Corps'

The ' Korea English Newspaper Junior English Reporter Corps Inauguration Ceremony and Reporter Appointment Ceremony,' jointly hosted by Daejeon Samyuk Elementary School (Principal Kim Shin-young) and the Korea English Newspaper (Publisher Cho Jeong-in), was successfully held at Daejeon Samyuk Elementary School on Friday, May 29.

This event was planned to provide a stepping stone for students to cultivate global competence through English reporter activities and grow into talented individuals who communicate with the world with a sound perspective. The occasion was graced by the presence of Daejeon Samyuk Elementary School Principal Kim Shin-young and other school officials, Korea English Newspaper Publisher and Representative Cho Jeong-in and other newspaper staff, as well as students from the Junior English Reporter Corps selected through a rigorous screening process.

The launching ceremony began with meaningful congratulatory remarks that offered warm encouragement and instilled a clear sense of mission in the junior reporters dreaming of becoming future global journalists.

Kim Shin-young, Principal of Daejeon Samyuk Elementary School, delivered a congratulatory and encouraging speech , praising the students by saying, “You, appointed today, are the great pride and joy of Daejeon Samyuk Elementary School.” She continued, “The upcoming English reporter activities will be a valuable opportunity to go beyond simply learning a language, to broaden your perspective on the world, and to further grow yourself,” adding, “I hope you grow into wonderful global talents and become excellent role models for future students.”

Following this, Cho Jung-in, Publisher and Representative of the Korea English Newspaper, delivered a profound message, likening a journalist's sense of mission to a "mirror." Representative Cho emphasized the sense of responsibility, stating, "A journalist is like a mirror reflecting the world. This is because readers come to view the world through the writings and articles you produce." He also urged the reporters to "listen to the stories around you and communicate with the world with sincerity through good thoughts and good writing."

In particular, CEO Cho stated, “We plan to hold an awards ceremony for outstanding reporters at the end of the year for those who have been active with passion, and we intend to compile the excellent articles you have written with sincerity and publish them as an official book at the end of the year.” He added, “The vivid articles written by the students through their fieldwork will be officially published on the official website of the Korea English Press ( www.kengpress.com ) and reach readers around the world,” thereby eliciting strong motivation and pride from the junior reporters.

◆ Awarding of Letters of Appointment and Press Passes… 'KEP Junior English Reporters' Officially Launched

At the subsequent appointment ceremony, official letters of appointment and press passes were presented to a total of six students selected as Junior English Reporters : Go Yun-ah, So Jae-eun, Eom Yu-ju, Woo Su-mi, Lee Ru-ri, and Ha Seo-yun.

Representative Cho Jung-in personally presided over the awarding of appointment certificates, presenting them to each student one by one with words of encouragement. Following this, Principal Kim Shin-young personally placed the lanyard-style press passes—the symbol of the press corps—around their necks, celebrating the official start of their activities. With their certificates held close to their hearts and their passes hanging around their necks, the students' faces were filled with pride and excitement as junior journalists.

After the awards ceremony, the attending guests and the entire Junior English Reporters gathered on stage to take a group photo, bringing the event to a grand finale.

The newly appointed Junior English Reporters from Daejeon Samyuk Elementary School will serve as the official English reporters of the 'KEP Junior English Reporters' from May 29, 2026, to December 30, 2028, for approximately two years and seven months. They are scheduled to engage in active reporting activities, covering various news from inside and outside the school as well as global issues in English articles.
